Camp Hornet Summer Camp Counselor

As a Camp Counselor, you will play an important role in providing a fun, entertaining, engaging educational and safe environment for Camp Hornet Campers.  You will lead children between 5 and 12 years of age during weekly themed activities throughout the summer, while greatly contributing to Camp Hornets mission of providing learning and fun that will last all summer long.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Orientation, training and weekly staff meetings.
  • Mandatory attendance for orientation and training prior to the start of camp.
  • Camp policies are provided in the Employee Handbook and covered during orientation.
  • Attendance at all additional staff meetings and additional training.

2. Daily experiences provided.
  • Greets and welcomes parents and children in a warm and friendly manner.
  • Continually keep campers active and engaged in fun and challenging activities while maintaining a safe environment.
  • Follow and execute activities according to pre-designed daily lesson plans to include, organized arts & crafts, singing, sports activities, games and field trips.
  • Lead a group of up to 10 camper's, ages 5 to 12 with a fun, positive and outgoing attitude.
  • Act as a role model to all campers attending camp.
  • Resolves child conflicts in a swift and professional manner.
  • Provides a safe, clean and organized camp area.
  • Interact with campers, parents/guardians and co-workers in a professional manner at all times.
  • Lead by example.
  • Understand and adhere to Standard Operating Procedures for camp.
  • Receive training to be a Senior Counselor-in-Training, provide accurate, clear and concise instructions.
  • Serve as role model regarding time keeping procedures, timeliness with arrival and departure scheduled times.
  • Flexibility is required.  Change and adjustments to schedules are common.

3. Financial & Budgetary.
  • Avoid waste of supplies and equipment used during activities.
  • No overtime is permitted unless pre-approved by a Supervisor.

4. Required duties.
  • Performs duties and makes decisions consistent with departmental mission, vision, and core values.
  • Confirms on an ongoing basis number of campers responsible for during course of activity or field trip.
  • Completes all cleaning duties that are assigned based on weekly schedules.  Cleaning responsibilities include lobby, all activity rooms, kitchen, bathrooms and office.
  • Morning responsibilities should include making sure all bathrooms are stocked for the day.  Each camper has the correct type of lunch or funds upon arrival.  All electronics are out and working properly for the day.
  • Evening responsibilities should include removal of all trash, collect lost & found, sweep, and arrange all chairs and tables for the next morning.  All water bottles filled, Kool-Aid made and placed in refrigerator.  Sweep and wipe down kitchen and bathrooms.
  • Friday of each week, all floors should be mopped and a deep cleaning and disinfecting of kitchen, bathroom and all tables.

5. Customer Service.
  • Demonstrates positive attitude and actions through a display of courtesy, service, cooperation, hospitality, sensitivity, and professionalism to internal and external customers.
  • Assist parents/guardians with check-in and check-out procedures.
  • Know and be prepared for the daily activities planned.
  • Communicate to Supervisor or sick or injured campers and provide needed information for incident report for injuries other than minor scrapes.

6. Safety.
  • Complies with all camp safety rules.
  • Uses all required safety devices and personal equipment.
  • Reports accidents and injuries to Supervisors as soon as possible, along with completion of required incident report.
  • Participates in safety training and safety inspections.
  • Immediately report to Supervisors, suspicious or inappropriate behaviors or abuse relating to youth.
  • Safety is the number one priority when participating in activities, riding on the bus, or on a field trip.  Be aware of surroundings at all times.
  • Take responsibility for health and well-being of self and campers.
