Upon graduating high school, Robbie joined the Army and served in the Infantry while stationed at Ft. Benning, Ft. Campbell and overseas in Korea. He applied for and was accepted to Kennesaw State University while in Korea and began attending college after first earning his honorable discharge in 1989.
In 1993, Robbie began his local government career with the City of Alpharetta as a 911 communications officer with the desire to move into the law enforcement field upon completing his undergraduate degree. One year later upon completing his undergraduate degree from Kennesaw State University, he was promoted to police officer and obtained his POST certification from the esteemed Public Safety Training Institute now Clayton Regional Police Academy. He went on to earn a Master of Public Administration (MPA) degree from the same University to help better prepare him for his passion and desire to embark on a career in governmental management.
In 2000, the Alpharetta City Administrator chose Robbie out of 65 candidates for a newly created position of Assistant to the City Administrator. A short time later, Robbie was reclassified to Assistant City Administrator while being assigned oversight of the public information and human resources departments. He was responsible for the operations of these municipal divisions to include fiscal and personnel management.
In late 2007, he was contacted by Holly Springs’ officials who encouraged him to compete for their city manager vacancy. In early 2008, he was ultimately selected to serve as their city manager. While serving Holly Springs, he worked closely with the Mayor and Council, appointed Boards and Authorities, citizens and the professional staff to facilitate several initiatives some of which included annual Council retreats, a financial management program, organizational efficiencies, and a comprehensive annual budget document. One of his significant accomplishments was when the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada awarded the City of Holly Springs its first Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for his Comprehensive Annual Budget Document. This notable designation could not have been achieved without the support and leadership from the Mayor and Council and the professional staff.
In addition to his degrees from Kennesaw State University, he also achieved a designation as a Certified Government Finance Officer Level I & II through the Carl Vinson Institute of Government at the University of Georgia, and is a graduate of the Georgia Academy for Economic Development, Leadership North Fulton class of 2004, and Leadership Cherokee class of 2010. He is currently pursuing the designation as a “Credentialed City Manager” through the International Association of City/County Managers. He is an active member of the International City/County Managers Association and Georgia City County Managers Association. Some of the associations he has been proud to serve also include Rotary International and the Alpharetta Police Athletic League.
Robbie has been a Cherokee County resident since he was eight years old and moved to Hiram in September 2012. He is a proud father of a fifteen year old daughter, Brianna. He started his journey with Hiram on September 4th, 2012 after a unanimous selection by the Mayor and Council. “I am extremely honored and humbled to serve as Hiram’s first city manager,” remarked Robbie. “My overarching goal is to be an integral part of a leadership team leading the City of Hiram in the direction as determined by the vision set forth by the honorable Mayor and Council and other appointed officials while ensuring the short and long term objectives are realized for the betterment of the citizenry and their quality of life,” Robbie added.
